BACKGROUND & HISTORY

The Intrapersonal Happiness Theory began to be structured around 1976 while the author was working on his Masters Thesis at Central Michigan University. After graduation and upon entering the Doctoral program at Wayne State University, he was granted an Independent Study to test the theory with others.  It was introduced in 1979 as a 10% option for students enrolled in the Basic Speech Course at C.M.U. Over 1800 students chose to participate by doing the theory for 20 days in succession and filling out a 65 page workbook of questions. The theory then integrated that data as well as the author’s personal research and his work with private clients. That information culminated in the first edition (1988) of “How To Be A Happier Person - Now!” The initial writing was used as a text for a course in Happiness, a reading supplement for therapeutic situations, and now as a self-help volume of instruction.

It is not a mistake that previously no one had developed a truly effective theory of how to be a Happier person. Simply put: others had not taken the time to understand the construct of Happiness. The IHT is a culmination of more than forty years of research and development; but more than that, it is the evolved personal life statement continually used by Dr. Bob Bedard.  No less commitment could yield such a theory.
